MACES is currently holding a referendum, March 20 – April 2, 2023, to decide if YOU support the continuation of the Legal Essentials Service (formerly known and Legal Protection Program) and Virtual Health Care (provided by Dialogue). The deadline to vote is Sunday, April 2 at 11:59 p.m. Your participation by virtual vote is vital to our ability to continue to advocate and enhance the service offerings available to you as School of Continuing Studies students.

So, what do both services offer to the eligible students*?

Let’s dive into the details.

The Legal Essentials Service offers unlimited access to a legal consultation service to consult a duly certified lawyer in your province of study regarding any legal question via a toll-free legal assistance helpline. It also includes further counsel should you qualify for legal representation.

The Legal Essentials will provide you with:

  • Legal assistance helpline: unlimited access to a helpline through which to consult a lawyer on any legal question to obtain legal guidance, opinion, and advice;
  • Legal representation: a lawyer would take charge of proceedings related to housing, employment, academic, small claims, civil mediation, and human rights disputes;
  • Lawyers’ fees would be unlimited in the areas of disputes covered by the Program.

Virtual Health Care FAQ

*All students who are MACES fee paying members registered in credit courses are automatically covered under the Legal Essentials Service (formerly Legal Protection Program) and Virtual Health Care Service (Dialogue).
