JOB TITLE: Chief Returning Officer

TERM: Temporary, part time

MACES is looking for a Chief Returning Officer (CRO) who shall be responsible for the planning and execution of the MACES Board of Directors Elections due to be held in the Winter 2018 term.

General Duties 

  • To conduct the elections in accordance with the MACES By-laws and election rules and guidelines with due diligence and impartiality.
  • To update and improve the electoral process and procedures.
  • To validate candidate nominations and requisite signatures.
  • To act as the primary liaison regarding all matters concerning the elections.
  • To be a resource person to students and candidates regarding the electoral process, rules, and guidelines. (Candidate will be required to respond to emails within 24 hours)
  • Organize and facilitate speeches and debates.
  • To ensure all candidates comply with the election rules.
  • Monitor candidate campaign strategies (communications, print materials, etc.)
  • To manage the ballots and validate the votes.
  • To approve campaign materials in accordance with bylaws and policies.
  • To send important election updates to candidates during the campaign/voting week via email.
  • Draft announcements to be distributed to the student body.
  • To monitor and follow-up on complaints and infractions related to candidates and the elections in general.
  • Disciplining candidate infractions.
  • Compile a comprehensive report of the elections with recommendations for future elections.



  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet conflicting deadlines.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Must work with integrity and fairness to ensure a transparent and fair election
  • Strong attention to detail required
